Dental Bridges

What are Dental Bridges?

Dental bridges are devices that bridge a gap created when teeth are lost. A bridge is typically made up of one to three artificial teeth which are held in place when attached to two crowns.

Why do I need a dental bridge?

All of your teeth play a crucial role when it comes to proper speech, chewing, and alignment. When you lose a tooth, it’s important to replace it as soon as possible to maintain the proper function of your jaw. A dental bridge is an excellent permanent solution for correcting tooth loss. It provides significant aesthetic and practical benefits and is virtually indistinguishable from a natural tooth.

Why would I get a dental bridge on my front teeth?

Our front teeth play the biggest role in our smiles, so it’s key to maintain them and make sure they are in the best shape possible. If you’ve lost a front tooth, a dental bridge is a top choice for restoring your smile.

When might you consider a front tooth dental bridge?

When a front tooth is:

•Lost
•Worn off
•Discolored or chipped
•Next to an embarrassing gap
•Misshaped

What are the different types of dental bridges?

Traditional removable bridges are attached to teeth on either side of the gap with metal clasps or precision attachments.

Fixed bridges are bonded into place through a surgical procedure which permanently secures the entire restoration.

What is the dental bridge procedure?

We prepare the teeth on each side of the gap and attach crowns which, once cemented in place, provide support for the bridge. Fixed bridges are usually cemented to the adjacent teeth, and an artificial tooth replaces the missing one. Plan for 2-3 appointments for the attachment procedure to be completed.

Since the procedure involves getting crowns, we numb the surrounding area with local anesthesia. As the anesthesia wears off, any lingering discomfort can be easily managed with over-the-counter medications. We are happy to accommodate those who would like IV sedation. Keeping you comfortable during your visit is a top priority at Sunshine Dental.
